Fantastic Mr Fox

By Roald Dahl

Mr Fox steals from three farmers regularly to feed his family. The three farmers, tired of Mr Fox constantly stealing from them, decided to work together to capture Mr Fox once and for all.

As a kid’s story, this a fun book to read; a fox versus bad farmers. The running and chasing and outsmarting the farmers is exciting. But there are some very curious points. Hunting Mr Fox wasn’t nice but stealing from the farmers was not right either. The book protraits the farmers as really horrible people but Mr Fox in a nicer light for choosing a more convenient method to feed his family. It would be different if Mr Fox rescued the animals so that they can be free, but Mr Fox was going to eat them too. Mr Fox’s apology to all the other animals for disrupting their peace was to get them to all steal together and party for outwitting the farmers together. Is Mr Fox really a hero? What is going to happen when the farms are emptied?
